No, I did not have a giant bucket of water dumped on me... it was raining on my grad night! No one would have predicted this one, just two days ago it was 110 degrees outside! Our worst bet was that we would sweat to death in our cap and gowns. But, nope. It was absolutely freezing, with the rain and wind; and us, senior class of 08, refused to get split up into two groups (the auditorium and the gym) like all the rest of the mesa school district did. :) So we truck out into the rain and started the long two hour ceremony.
About 20 minutes into it we were thoroughly soaked, but still laughing and OH SO HAPPY this day finally came! The music from the choir and orchastra was quickly stratched off the agenda, because the instruments would get ruined, so we walked out to a pre recorded version of the music. :) We were not permitted to bring anything with us onto the field (this included umbrellas) so we just had to sit tight and look pretty in our "slightly" wet Toro blue gowns. (Honestly, who invented the cap and gown? They are the most unfashionable attire i have ever seen! Square hats and a sheet? Not attractive at all. My theory is this.... , "Congradulations! You've just finished 12 long hard years of education, let's get a laugh before you move on to bigger and brighter things... wear this.")
The names were read, and as we got down to the last ten names they were reading off, the crowd was about to burst! I wouldn't mind being on of the last people, they certainly recieved the loudest applauses. Then after the last name was read, we didn't even bother with the concluding remarks, we threw our caps in the air then ran to find our parents and hug our dearest friends. I had the slight misfortune in that i completely forgot to arrange a meeting point, which resulted in a number of minutes just trying to find which side of the field they sat on. I found them then turned to the parking lot, only to discover they parked on the complete opposite side of the school campus. Which led to a very wet walk through the courtyard to the car. :) Here is a couple of my favorite memories from the night....
-Having all our caps start out straight then become top heavy with all the rain water and basically become pools of water on top of your head. Brilliant! (kudos again to whoever invented them, they were clearly made for rainy weather)
-Walking out underneath the stadium lights with the graduation music playing and seeing everyone in the stands huddled unterneath umbrellas and other contraptions to prevent from getting soaked. Anything and everything goes tonight.
-Standing up to get ready to get your diploma and seeing litterally a sea of blue that is composed of all your friends, the kids in your math classes, the teachers and couslors you so admire.
-Smiling from ear to ear as your handed your diploma, realizing that all those sleepless nights finally paid off and were good for something. :)
Here's a quick peek at what i looked like when i was actually dry...

Congrats to the Grad! I love the picture with Kacie and her parents. I looks more like Pam and Gary were out hunting graduates. I'm glad they got one. Way to go Kacie.
What a memorable night. I really don't remember much about my high school graduation, but thanks to the rain, I'm sure you'll remember yours a lot better! You worked really hard in high school and deserve all the success you enjoyed. BYUI will be more of the same, I'm sure!
