Picking up Roni from the airport
Oh what a blast!! We learned SO much and gained a further appreciation and love for the field of Psychology and research. Oh yeah!!
I had spent some time bouncing back and forth between Provo and SLC, touring BYU's campus, meeting professors, gaining insights into their programs, attending the student sessions of the RMPA, BYU ice cream social, etc. It really was a BUSY few days. On a side note, i ran into Ruth and her sister at BYU! It was like, "hey... roommie... I'll be seeing ya in a bit!", I also tracked down Jbers and brought him a Jamba Juice (he's in the midst of finals, the poor boy), and accidentally ran into my cousin Karen Kearns while she was working at Forever 21! It's is seriously such a small world. Oh what a blast!! We learned SO much and gained a further appreciation and love for the field of Psychology and research. Oh yeah!!
Roni and i got off to a great start! Picked her up, then... took a wrong turn and got lost for a bit. (I had to give Justin back his amazingly helpful GPS system before i left that day, we were back to mapquest print outs) We figured it out fairly quickly and made our way over to the convention.
Our wonderful hotel host
Well here we are! Time to shine!! ... and shine we did! We had compliments in how we engaged our viewers/visitors/audience. AND their was one gentleman (professor)who was so interested in the way we set up our study and the results we recieved, that he asked us if he could take it with him on his trip to Asia. He grabbed his assistant who is also taking part in the trip and we had a nice long discussion about our project! It was so neat and exciting to have someone else just as interested in our study as we are.
Bro. Delton, our ever supportive and helpful teacher, he assisted us so much we made him co-author. PLUS, it made our study seem even more legit with his Ph.D. along side our names. oh yeah. we are just that cool.
Roni is the PERFECT research partner! We seriously had some great times planning and preparing our study, carrying it out, writing it up, waking up early to visit with Bro. Delton prior to class, creating our poster, catching each other's errors, laughing at my inefficient spelling and or severe lack of sleep; we shared enthusiasim as we excitedly texted each other the number of students who had completed our survey, analyzed our data, planned our RMPA trip, sigh... this girl is AMAZING! I could not have done it without her.
We loved being at this convention! Learning about the "secret university", aka poster sessions at conventions where we learn more from each other and from the professional feedback than could ever be learned inside the classroom. What an AWESOME day. After a quick change, we headed back to Rexi to try and get out of town before nightfall, those roads under construction were pretty hard to manuver through, there was so many lines drawn, faded, and redone that i had to think twice before i knew which path in the road i was to stay on. Infinitely harder at night. We made it out safely and managed to get about 30 minutes outside of rexburg before rain hit. I discovered much to my dismay that the windshield wipers only blur my already obscured vision. Thank goodness for that little solid white line on the side of the road that kept me headed in the right direction- gives a whole new meaning to the "iron rod" and the "mist of darkness".
On a side note, we were listening to The Hunger Games on CD and oh man, it was getting so intense! And then the road conditions got intense! We both let out a frusterated scream! it was kind of fun.
Yeah for research!
P.S. if you are ever in Bro. Delton's research methods class, you may just be shown not only pictures but a complete documentary of Roni and my experience with doing research. He's like immortalized us as the perfect storybook tale of doing research on our own. Two girls halfway through the semester, discover the need to conduct their own reserach. They find a way to do so and complete it just in time for the Undergraduate Student Reserach Convention here at BYU-ID. Not only that, but they go on to win 2nd Place! They then take their research to the nationally recognized RMPA convention and converse with professors from around the country and make valuable connections to graduate schools. They then take their study and submit it to various undergraduate journals in hope that they one day, might be published...
Ya, he recorded a brief interview with us at the convention in front of our poster.
Sa-weetness!
It's legit.
Word to the wise, follow any prompting you might recieve. It may lead you to increadible places/opportunities and open far many more doors than you could've ever done on your own.
