At this year's javalina hunt, Mom, Faith, Jake, and myself tagged along for the camping part. It's nice to get outdoors and be with the family. Mom planned a menu of hardy dutch oven cooking, and Faith and Jake brought a variety of activities to keep us all entertained: cards, bat and balls, even my laptop with a couple movies for the afternoon. Sounds like a great weekend get away. What we were not planning on was the strength of the wind as it came whipping through our camp shelter and the significant downpour of rain that flooded our camp and leaked into our tent.
The morning started out with beautiful weather, we had even started the coals for breakfast.
But as the weather quickly turned sour, the boys came back from their hunt and we eventually decided (after checking the tent for leaks, which we found a plenty) that instead of justing sitting in the rain, we should just pack up and dry out at home.
And thus started the frantic clean up.
We made it out alright. Course as soon as we finished packing the rain let up.... so typical.
We got to the highway with our mud-soaked gear and the jeep's back door light goes on like it's open. Great...if that door opens, we'd have a big mess along with the loss of hundreds of dollars worth in camping gear! Neither dad or Nate answered their cell phones so we just cruised all the way home.
All safe and sound, we unloaded our muddy cars, gear, and the boy's javellina.... yum?
We'll have to find someway to eat this funny looking animal.
