Apartment fire!!

Coming home from our Sunday meeting, we found our Relief Society President's roommate who had stayed home sick, outside with a half destroyed couch. Cushions were scattered across the yard, a large hole consumed one side revealing the wood structures underneath, bits of ash and soot speckled the fabric; of course we were worried and asked what had happened. She and our RS Pres were sleeping upstairs when they awoke to the fire downstairs.

It didn't make much sense honestly because the fireplace had not been used; however, seeing as they are programmed to turn on when the temperature drops below a certain point I suppose it had turned on with all the rainy weather, etc.

Either way, the rumor is that some papers or something were stacked up near it and it had gotten hot enough for it to spark a fire. Much of the carpet, furnature, etc. had some sort fire damage.
Arrangements were made for the 4 girls to room somewhere else while it's taken care of.
What's scary is that they are in the same building as us. The buildings are situated so one building holds 4 apartments.

All in all, with the quick reaction it wasn't really too bad. What a blessing that the two girls had stayed home from church sick, otherwise no one would have been there to contain the flames.
