Well for the first time in all my 6 years at camp my mom came up with me as a cabin mom. Believe me, it was so weird to be walking down to the lodge from our addie then turn to see my mom walking the other direction telling me not to get into too much trouble while she was gone (she went on the 3rd year hike). Very weird at first, camp has always been just me there, now my mom was asked to tag along. :) Really, it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed having her just a couple of addie's away. (Oh, addie's are three walled cabins with a flap to keep the bugs (and skunks)out.) My mom had a nice experience with a skunk just an arm's lenght away, it just came walzing up to there addie and placed itself next to the food box that my mom was bent over getting into. She said to all the girls there...
"Oh look we have a skunk visitor",
and in two seconds flat that place was empty! So funny. :) No one got sprayed luckly but still, gave all a good fright.
Then there was skit night in which the old dress up like the young and prace around on stage. (wouldn't there husbands like to see this!) :) Then there was all the girls elaboratly dressed up for there different skits. This year our songs came from a variety of different Disney songs. Our girls (my YCL ward) did The Little Mermaid. Try having sparkles dumped on your eyelids and cheeks after putting a glittery gel there. yah, we were walkinging disco balls :) no not really but with our elborate make up (lime green, blue, yellow and bright purple) we really looked like we just came from the ocean. It turned out cute with our little skirts and such.
Then camp the infamous snipe hunting! :P We got our girls so good this year and they themselves were laughing so hard when they found out our secret! (for those of you who haven't experienced snipe hunting themselves, it's where we tell them to put toothpaste on your forheads, grab a pillow case and go running through the forest looking for snipes. The people in on the story go bounding through the forest claiming they caught a snipe, one scratched them, oh it got away, etc. Eventually we grab a rock, stuff it in our bag and have the girls touch it (which they freak out about) then take them into a cabin where we "unveil" the secret by having them open the bags.) Ha ha ha! We got them on film of them unwrapping the bags, all careful about not touching them or getting bite by one, then finding only a rock or a wad of dirt! :) This year i was ingenius to suggest we bring glow paint and paint rocks and stuff with eyes. (cuz in the story the snipe's eye's glow, that's how you find them). Our girls were laughing and saying how convincing we were, they wanted to do it again but it's kind of a one time thing :). They love us! Oh as were discussing my girls, there was this one girl who just couldn't get enough of me, she became my walking, talking shadow! For example, one night as we are brushing our teeth, etc. i put my bag of stuff down at one end of the row of sinks, as i walk down the rows looking for an empty sink, she follows me. I finish and walk back to get my face wash, there she is again trailing a foot behind me. I go back, she comes with. It was pretty funny. My girls were great. We actually had a couple non-members that were invited by neighbors in our group, they said there testimony meeting was so strong that even those two girls were bawling there eyes out cuz they felt the spirt. Hopefully they wont forget that feeling and continue coming to church activities and such. :) there good girls.
Well i could go on forever repeating such happenings at camp but i think i'll let you go. Hike was good (i don't know why but they took the first years on the longest hike, around 6 miles uphill and rocky). Girls did great, all made it to the top, except for our cabin moms. Ha!
