"I make a living checking people out" ... No, Really!

Ha ha! I just had to post about all the funnies at work! Believe me, it's an adventure... mixed in with the boredom of staying in one... single... spot... for 3 hours a day! Here are some of the wonderful highlights from this past semester... and yes, i took notes! I'm nerdy like that. or just a blogger....

1. Waving at boys till they walk into someone/something...

2. Customer's conversation on the phone: "I'm in the line with the really short girl...."
3. Little girl in line said to her mom, "I wanna be a BYU-I worker like her when i grow up." (cute thing was, she repeated it like 3-4 times because her mom didn't respond immediately)

4. Being able to give someone their total before they even put their tray down. LOVE IT! I get cool reactions. Gotta love them touch screens.

5. Walking past the cook's office to see it "foiled". Everything from the pens on their desk to the cabinets, clocks, and clipboards was wrapped in tin foil. They were sure thorough... VERY funny!

6. Guy friends coming through asking for girl advice (with their hamburger and fries), in which you try to answer, through broken conversation, while checking out the remaining customers. One elderly couple that i apologized too said they didn't mind at all, " sounds like an interesting topic". Ha ha, they were funny.

7. Bring your (my) camera to work day. I've got about 20+ pictures of Megan and everyone in the back prep area. Case in point...

8. Meeting famous people. With our schools devotionals, seminars, concerts, and continuous guest speakers... there's a steady stream of recognizable faces.
President Clark, Brother Eyring (his dad's the apostle), Kirby ___ (can't recall his last name, comedian in a lot of lds movies), Leon and Dell Parson (Church artists- all the classic paintings are theirs i.e. scripture pictures), a famous international opera star (I've never heard him before but i guess his resume is like six pages long of different plays and operas he's stared in)...

9. Free live entertainment: the stage in the common area is frequently used by students and performers to show off musical talents. They held a "BYU-Idol" sort of event for about a week or so -some were phenomenal singers, others... well, we admire their courage.

10. The school's power went out for about 45 minutes. We closed up and were asked to eat all the pizza, calzones, hamburgers, etc. because they're not being kept at a specific temperature with the power outage. Best day ever, we were getting paid to eat!! (we don't get free food or discounts).

11. Trying to convince your boss that you don't need to wear a hat when you pin your hair up all cute. Ryan said if i did my hair like the girl from My Fair Lady, then i wouldn't have too... i was soooo tempted.
12. It was interesting when on occasion a little drama sparked up (so-and-so kissed so-and-so, it didn't work out, but they still have to work together, she/he likes she/he, but won't tell them... blah, blah, blah...) but nothing ever tooooo dramatic.

The cooks, the bakers, the salad bar shakers (ha ha, I'm rhyming) they're all so great, making work a fun, coooool place to be. Where else to you get to stand out and wear our 'lovely' uniforms? To be part of the elite club of cashiers- where we get to wear very austere looking cashier vests and if your an old timer like me, a badge... makes me feel so exclusive! I'm not going to lie, it's not easy to get this job. I have been very blessed and am reminded of it every time a student asks me about working at the Crossroads. I really wish there were more jobs around Rexburg, this bad economy has hit everywhere.

Well, on a good note, I will be returning for my 5th consecutive semester of cashiering duties in the fall. Should be fun! Yeah!
