Art Review

..."and we will start right here next time, see you all tomorrow." casually my teacher Bro. Geddes says.

I nervously walk up to him, wait patiently while he talks with someone else, then say, "I've brought it today, do you still mind critiquing it?"

"Sure, i'd love too, remember i'll be pointing out your weaknesses, and your strengths- just help me carry these paintings up to the gallery"

I grab a couple and we walk up to the first floor.

After we drop them off we heed off to his office, he takes my CD, pops it into his Imac, wait impatiently for it to read....

... and then it pops up... the visual representation of my hours of diligent work, the result of years of practice, the product of my life!... my portfolio.

I nervously worry if it is good enough to be considered art, "Was that medium really the right choice for that piece?", "Oh, darn it, that one shouldn't have been included", "Please don't zoom in on that part- i didn't like the way the colors worked in that area..."

And he scans... and reviews, and studies my work

...

Bro Geddes, "Hmmm... this is a clever piece, i like her facial expressions." , "You have a great potential, i believe you've chosen a great major- you definitely can do it.", "Next time, try restraining the details, just leave a few areas for the viewer to interpret and figure out themselves. Detail in everything doesn't let anything have emphasis- try finding what you really want to emphasize and put a lot of detail into that, but just let everything else 'fade' back so it really pops.", "I'm proud of you kid- a lot of student's don't come in here with a portfolio", "Keep at it kiddo- your doing great".

:)

I can still see where i need a lot of help in, but his advise, "Never get to the point where you can't look at one of your pieces and wish you had done something different in it- never is there a perfect piece."

I'm happy. He says i'm right at the level i should be. Now i just have to refine my skills which will come with an art education. :) I'm pretty excited to get started. :)

Kacie Girl,

What a fantastic blog!!! Allie and I have been sitting here reading it together. Sounds like you are having way too much fun. This life is supposed to be a trial and testing period isn't it? Good job on your art review by your instructor. I have been telling you the same thing for years, how come that didn't count? You really do have a great talent there. I am very proud of you!!!

Have a great time but keep it under control.
