Day 4- Wednesday

Capital Hill Day!

Don't you just love my teachers shoes? She insisted that she was not going to slaughter her feet, therefore sacrificed style over comfort. :) So funny cuz she was in a really cute suit. You can't really see it with her coat on.

Best day of the week if you ask me. We get to run off with our teachers, tour all of capital hill, meet our senators and district represtatives, go inside the capital building (gorgeous!), then come back to the hotel and hold a mock Congress session, where we get to create bills, have a Speaker of the House to run business, lobbyists (Oh i so wanted to be one but someone took my spot!), etc. Very interesting. And like the real Congress, we got nothing done. :) I think 3 bills passed. Oh but it was so fun! Very enjoyable day.

My teacher was amazing and arranged for us to wait in line to visit inside the Supreme Court house while they were presenting a court case. Very cool. We couldn't make it for the full hour so we waited in line for the 3-5 minute line. Way cool to see all nine justises sitting in their seats.

Here's a model of the court room. so cool! I'm turning into a wonk!

ah, Senator McCain's office. Congress wasn't in session so we couldn't meet with him personally. (Darn) But we did get to talk to one of his staff, it was really funny because she doesn't know much about him or his policies. Kind of an empty conversation because she kept directing us to his website to get our answers. Oh well, still kind of cool to stand outside a Pres. Candidate's office.

Ah, good old Jeff Flake! He's my favorite. He has two kids attending our school so we see him alot. Actually, he just came to our school to talk just a couple weeks ago so we knew all about him and his policies. He's a cool guy, LDS too. Again, he wasn't there either but we wrote him a note on a sticky note saying the toros came by to see him and say hello and such. Figured he get a kick out of that. He was actually on a cruise with his family at the time. Had a really neat intern from BYU-Provo, she gave us a complete tour of the House side of the Capital Building. Way fun. She gave me some great pointers too, i think i would really enjoy an intern there with Flake. And i have to get one to graduate from BYU-Idaho so might as well look into it. :)

most of the time they only let you in to see kind of the greeting room. She took us back to see
